This whole Google fiasco somehow reminds me of my Grade 12 History class. Our teacher was also the school psychologist, and had a few nifty tricks up her sleeve. She would assign homework and surprise us with pop quizzes on a daily basis, but none of it would count towards our final grade.Instead she would hand out stars.
You remember - those tiny little 'lick and stick' stars that came in gold, silver or bronze? She would give us stickers on a big chart according to us handing in our homework, the amount completed, and amount correct. It was a chart like you would see in a Kindergarten classroom - seriously.
She must have laughed her ass off every night when she went home, because that was THE BEST system I've ever fell victim to! You have no idea how hard we all worked to try and get a gold star beside our names on the chart. And god help you if you had a silver, or (gulp) a bronze up there on your chart. Your classmates would never let you forget it.
We were 18 years old and worked our asses off for stickers. I bet she wrote her friggin thesis on us. Because our class average was off the charts, we worked so damn hard!
But the stickers somehow mattered. It was her system of rating us, and how we compared ourselves to each other. And everyone else who ever entered or used that classroom could see our chart. So it mattered.
Just like this page rank crap. I was previously a 3 - not great, but respectable - I was ok with it. And now, both my sites are a ZERO.
It's as though Google just put a big bright RED star on my chart, and I'm transported back to History class again.

I think this Google stuff may come to hurt Google in the end. Karma and all.

Best analogy to the PR system I've read yet. I remember the icky taste those stars left in my mouth. This whole Google Spank leaves a much more bitter taste, and I'm old enough now to realize that I no longer care.

I don't understand the whole ranking thing...never looked can't be bothered....what does it matter anyhow...as long and we blog because we want to....

As for the Vick's....I saw that as well and i tried it on my girls when they were over...they just said it burnt and the gave them a chilling feeling...but I think it might have helped with their cough a bit....
You're a ten in my book girlfriend, although I know that's not making you any money and that's clearly the reason why PR matters at the end of the day! Here's to hoping they get it all straightened out very soon. My theory is that they should come up with a different PRing for blogs! What do you think? Hopefully they'll come to some sort of conclusion soon.
