Dear Deer... Elk?

It's been a long winter around here, and the deer and elk must really be feeling it. Not a trip out of town goes by without seeing the large herd of elk down on the flats by the highway. I'm guessing there's not much left to eat higher up. You sure have to keep your wits about you when driving around here, and if you don't have good car insurance, you'd better get busy and find some auto insurance quotes.

This bottom picture was taken in Banff National Park in Alberta. It's a major highway, so to protect the elk (and other animals too, I assume) there are large fences on either side of the highway, and walkways across just for them!

These next set of pictures were taken by one of my girlfriends who lives in the East Kootenays near my hometown. She was over at a friend's house, and apparently this guy had been hanging around for quite some time.

Don't ask me which idiot decided to hand feed him - although their Canadian citizenship is not in doubt as evidenced by the bare feet in winter!

I've always wanted to go to Banff, the pictures of it are just gorgeous so I can only imagine what it looks like in real-life.

We have a major influx of deer here in Connecticut that make driving during early morning and dusk somewhat dangerous as that's when they tend to jump out in front of cars. My son hit one a couple of years ago (driving my car, of course!) but I've been lucky and never hit one myself. Fingers crossed!!

Many years ago, on train trip from Trondheim to Bodö in Norway, our train was stopped for hours because of about 500 elks (according to the conductor) who just were there and did not move.

Okay, the protected walkways for animals I can understand, but the bare feet in winter?! That's beyond my comprehension.

Looks like you have a whole lot of pedelkstrians. LOL!

Wow! That is amazing that there are so many you'd need a bridge for them.

And I agree with you about feeding them. That just makes them come back over and over again.

Is that real pic that the person in the last pic is not wearing anything on the feet? That is weired.
